Not a production line

The variety is the point. In a single week the shop might build a stainless staircase, a racing chassis component, a set of access ramps and a piece of heritage metalwork. Nobody spends five years welding the same bracket.

The workforce at East Harling is directly employed. Welder/ fabricators, machinists and office staff all work from the same site at East Harling, which means a question about a job gets answered by walking twenty feet rather than by raising a ticket.

We take the training of skilled people seriously because the alternative (buying skill in from a shrinking pool) has not worked for the industry as a whole. If you want to learn fabrication, welding or machining here, say so: it is learned on real jobs alongside people who have done the work for years, which is the only way it has ever been learned.

What we look for

Time served and formally qualified candidates are both welcome. What matters more than either is whether you can read a drawing properly, whether you check your own work before someone else does, and whether you will say something when a job does not look right rather than making it anyway.
