On-site installation of fabricated steelwork

Site & Project Support

Installation, engineering modification and engineering support carried out at your premises, because a fabrication that does not fit what is already there is not finished work.

Overview

Heavy plant installed in an industrial building

The most expensive failure in fabricated metalwork is almost never a bad weld. It is an assembly that was made accurately to a drawing that did not match the building.

Site work exists to close that gap. We attend site, take the dimensions the drawing does not have, and install what we have made. Where something already installed has to change (a machine footprint moves, a layout is reworked, an access route alters) we modify it in place rather than asking you to take it out and send it back.

This is the third of the three routes into the business, and it is not a bolt-on to the other two. It is also the stage where the value of having designed and made the thing yourself becomes obvious: the people fitting it know why it was detailed that way.

Capability

  • Dimensional survey of existing structure before detailing, so what we make fits what is actually there
  • Installation of platforms, walkways, staircases, balustrades and support frames
  • Engineering modification of installed metalwork to suit changed equipment or layout
  • On-site engineering support to a project, including attendance during commissioning
  • Trial assembly in the works before despatch on close-fitting work
  • Snagging and remedial work on fabrications we have supplied

Applications

Typical work

  • Access platforms and walkways fitted around installed plant
  • Staircases and balustrades in occupied buildings
  • Equipment support frames adapted to a changed machine footprint
  • Retrofit of guarding and safety steelwork to existing machinery
  • Installed metalwork altered to accommodate a reworked layout
  • Engineering attendance where a fabrication has to be fitted to something unmapped

What we need

To quote accurately

  • Site address, access arrangements and any site induction requirement
  • Photographs of the existing installation and its surroundings, the single most useful thing you can send with a site enquiry
  • What the work has to achieve, and any constraint on how it can be done
  • Available working windows: hours, shutdown dates, permit requirements
  • Whether power, welfare and access equipment are available on site
  • Any documentation you require from a contractor before they attend

Missing something from this list? Send what you have. Most enquiries can be priced from a dimensioned sketch, and we would rather ask one question than quote round a gap.

The last stage

Why the fitter should know the drawing

Site work is where the cost of a decision made months earlier finally shows up.

A bracket detailed for the convenience of the welding bay can be the reason a platform cannot be lifted into position through the only door it will fit through. Nobody discovers that in the works.

Because the same business surveys, designs, fabricates and fits, that conversation happens at the detailing stage rather than on the day. It is the least glamorous argument for single-supplier continuity and, on installed work, the one that saves the most money.

It is an assembly made accurately to a drawing that did not match the building. Site services exist to close that gap before material is cut, not after.

Questions we are actually asked

Common questions

Our own team. That is the whole argument for using one supplier across the chain: the people fitting it know why it was detailed the way it was, and the person who detailed it knew how it would have to be lifted in.

UK-wide. The works is at East Harling in Norfolk, but site work is not limited to the East of England.

Yes. That is engineering modification, and it is one of the three things this page covers. A machine footprint moves, a layout is reworked, an access route changes: we alter the metalwork in place rather than asking you to take it out and send it back.

The address and access arrangements, any site induction requirement, photographs of the existing installation and its surroundings, the working windows available, and whether power, welfare and access equipment are on site. Photographs are the single most useful thing you can send with a site enquiry. They answer a dozen questions we would otherwise have to ask.

No. This is project and installation work: we install, we modify, and we provide engineering support to a project. We do not run scheduled maintenance contracts, inspection regimes or out-of-hours breakdown cover, and we would rather say so than take the enquiry and disappoint you at the worst possible moment.

Yes, and on anything that has to fit existing structure it is the cheapest hour in the project. A dimensional survey before detailing means the steelwork is made to what is actually there rather than to what the drawing says should be there. That is also the point at which engineering consultancy and site work become the same conversation.
